‘The Art of Restoration’ book cover was launched at Auto Expo 2023 by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) President, Vinod Aggarwal and Managing Director and CEO, Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles, along with SIAM DG, Rajesh Menon, and Himanshu Jangid, Founder, Cartist. The book, ‘The Art of Restoration’, will be launched on 18 April, 2023 on World Heritage Day. 

The book is a part of Cartist’s project, ‘The Art of Restoration’, a six-month project that documents the process of car restoration on two iconic cars, Ambassador 1959 Mark II and Cadillac 1954 fleetwood sixty special. It would be a guide for the upcoming generation to pursue the hobby of restoring classic cars and to empower them with the knowledge of tools, processes and technical know-how. It will cover planning, body panel, mechanicals, upholstery and paint finish to help youngsters understand the process of restoration. The book will also feature stories of cars restored by Himanshu Jangid in the past, along with automobile artworks of contemporary artists across India. 

Sharing his thoughts, Jangid said, “The book will provide a complete guide to car enthusiasts who want to restore their cars in their own garage or to understand the process of restoration. It is an effort to share my knowledge for the next generation on how they can preserve the heritage of Indian automobiles.”

      Turning E-Waste into Art

      A striking anamorphic sculpture, crafted from repurposed headlights, air conditioning units, chipboards and other discarded materials is helping to turn e-waste into an art. It is aiding to bring new meaning to sustainability and creativity. 
      A one-of-a-kind installation created by artists Rohini Maiti and Surya Punjabi in collaboration with Tata Motors’ Re.Wi.Re Recycling Facility, the striking anamorphic sculpture reflects the capability to transform e-waste into a powerful artistic statement. 
      Through ‘Behind A Silver Lining’, the artists have explored the intersection of art, science, and technology, giving new life in the process, to materials that would otherwise be discarded. The installation challenges the way we view industrial waste, encouraging audiences to see potential where others see obsolescence.
      More than just an artwork, the sculpture sparks important conversations about sustainability, innovation, and responsible recycling. Paying tribute to the Kala Ghoda tradition of horse-inspired sculptures, it also reflects on the evolution of transportation and the role of design in shaping a sustainable future.
