DICV to Digitally Transform Driving Techniques

DICV to Digitally Transform Driving Techniques

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has taken a step to digitally transform truck driving techniques on Indian roads by launching its state of the art ‘BharatBenz Simulated Driver Trainer’, a simulated driver trainer that it has been jointly developed with a cutting-edge technology partner.

The high-end, technology-backed simulator is said to be one-of-its-kind in the Indian commercial vehicles industry. It is a combination of a computerised and digital experience for any BharatBenz driver who trains on it. The set up comprises of a multi-screen display positioned upfront in the driver’s line of sight. The training driver sits inside a real BharatBenz heavy-duty truck (HDT) cabin that is technologically tethered to real-world dynamics that give the driver an immersive multi-sensory feel of any road or terrain the truck is being driven on. Terrain, weather conditions and other obstacles can be altered via a computer, controlled remotely.

Satyakam Arya – Managing Director & CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, said, “We are looking into every possible aspect that will help us digitally transform, not just DICV and BharatBenz but also those who are contributing towards our endeavor to make our customers successful. Being an important part of our long-term digital transformation journey the state-of-the-art BharatBenz Simulated Driver Trainer is a new benchmark in the Indian commercial vehicles industry.”

The simulated driver trainer machine is intricately programed to transform the way BharatBenz truck drivers will tackle a variety of terrains and weather conditions by training on driving techniques that they will require to keep pace with India’s rapid road and infrastructure development. It will enhance their driving skills, help them learn and adapt to modern technology in BharatBenz trucks, better their logistical efficiency, drive safer than before and strengthen their driving capability for interstate, intra-city, hilly and mining terrain applications. BharatBenz truck drivers could train in 5 Indian languages – English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu. More languages would be added this year. In its initial phase, the driver simulator will cater to drivers of heavy-duty trucks (HDT).

SANY Launches India’s First Hybrid Off-Highway Mining Dump Truck

          SANY SKT130S

Construction and off-road equipment major SANY has launched what it claims is India's first hybrid off-highway 100-tonne mining dump truck – the SKT130S – with localised manufacturing at its Pune factory.

The truck operates with a 925 kW engine, which generates 3200 Nm of torque, 100-tonne payload capacity and a 61 CuM heaped body capacity, designed for mining applications.

Deepak Garg, Vice-Chairman and MD, SANY India and South Asia, said, “The introduction of the SKT130S is a remarkable achievement in our journey towards driving innovation and self-reliance in India’s mining sector. As India’s first 100-tonne diesel-electric hybrid mining truck, the SKT130S demonstrates SANY India’s commitment to delivering high-performance, efficient and safe solutions to meet the evolving demands of the industry. Our focus on localisation not only supports India’s manufacturing vision but also ensures that we bring cutting-edge technology to enhance productivity in mining operations.”

The SKT130S is expected to achieve fuel savings of 20-25 percent compared to conventional mining trucks. A regenerative braking system enables the high-voltage battery to charge during downhill operation.

The truck includes an intelligent control module for operation management and a 10-inch central control screen for navigation and safety. The cabin meets FOPS/ROPS certification standards, aligning with global safety regulations.
