Torus Robotics Secures $470,000 Seed Investment for Advanced EV Powertrain Technology

Torus Robotics Pvt Ltd, a startup focusing on advanced powertrain technology for electric vehicles (EVs), defence, aviation, and consumer markets, has secured a seed investment of USD 4,70,000.
The funding was led by Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Fund Management Corporation (TNIFMC) as part of the Tamil Nadu Emerging Sector Seed Fund (TNESSF). Other investors include Forge Innovation & Ventures from Coimbatore and SINE (Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship) IIT Bombay.
The investment will be used to expand Torus Robotics’ research and development efforts and swiftly bring their innovative technologies from the lab to the market. The company plans to use the funds for innovation, growth, and other critical business aspects. Torus Robotics aims to revolutionise the electric mobility landscape by making EVs faster, more efficient, and more affordable with their products.
“Torus’s unique approach in the development of axial flux motors aligns with TNIFMC’s commitment to fostering innovation/R&D in the state and investing in groundbreaking technologies that can be commercialised at scale. This partnership is strategically crafted to expedite Torus’s commercialisation initiatives and spearhead the widespread integration of axial flux technology in the electric mobility sector,” Karthic Ramamoorthy from Tamil Nadu Emerging Sector Seed Fund said.
Speaking on the announcement, Vibhakar Senthil, Co-Founder of Torus Robotics, shared, “This funding will empower us to invest in R&D and introduce new products that can meet the changing needs of customers in the EV automotive space. Our unwavering commitment to revolutionise electric mobility remains strong, and we are optimistic about the opportunities lying ahead of us.”
Founded in 2019 in Chennai by Vignesh M, Vibhakar Senthil, and Abbhi Vignesh K, Torus Robotics aims to reduce the reliance on imported powertrain components for EVs, such as motors and controllers. They focus on advancing Axial Flux Motors and controllers, offering locally sourced products that are lighter, more efficient, and cost-effective compared to conventional options.
Torus Robotics has also secured funding through the FLCTD program by UNIDO, with validation from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). They have received support from Startup TN, the Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation Institute - Tamil Nadu (EDII-TN), and central and state governments.
Beyond the EV market, Torus Robotics is exploring opportunities in industries like power generation, robotics, and others. Their versatile technology has the potential to transform various sectors, aligning with global efforts towards sustainability.
Ashok Leyland Opens New LCV Dealership In Jajpur, Odisha

Chennai-based commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland has inaugurated its new light commercial vehicles dealership in Jajpur, Odisha, which also marks the sixth such facility in the state.
The new facility is equipped with advanced tools, quick service bays and to service its extensive range of LCVs including – Bada Dost, Dost, Saathi, Partner and MiTR.

Tata Motors Launches New Winger Plus At INR 2 Million

Mumbai-headquartered commercial vehicle major Tata Motors has launched its all-new 9-seater Tata Winger Plus at INR 2.06 million.
The Winger Plus is aimed at customers looking to offer a premium mobility experience for staff transportation and growing tourist demands. It features such as reclining captain seats with adjustable armrests, personal USB charging points, individual AC vents and spacious leg room. Built on a monocoque chassis, it comes with wide cabin and large luggage compartment, at the same time providing car-like ride and handling, along with robust safety.

Switch Mobility Begins Delivery Of Electric Buses To Delhi

Switch Mobility, a subsidiary of the Hinduja Group and a leading manufacturer of electric vehicles, has commenced delivery of its Switch EIV12 low-floor electric buses to the Department of Transport, Delhi. The buses are part of a landmark 950-unit order awarded under the CESL tender and were officially flagged off by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The deployment marks a significant step in Delhi's transition toward sustainable urban mobility. Manufactured at Switch’s facility in India, the buses are a testament to the company's ‘Make in India for the World’ vision, combining global technology with local manufacturing.
Designed for Delhi’s demanding urban transit, the 12-metre buses can accommodate 39 passengers and are equipped with advanced safety and convenience features, including a wheelchair ramp, CCTV cameras, panic buttons and GPS tracking.

The new buses utilise the company’s proprietary telematics system, Switch iON, for real-time monitoring and efficient fleet management. Additionally, they feature a streamlined, ultra-low-floor design for easy boarding and are equipped with a fire detection and suppression system for enhanced safety. This rollout aligns with the Delhi Government's aim to have the highest number of electric buses in India, with the potential to reduce CO2 emissions and provide safer commutes for millions of daily passengers.
Piaggio Vehicles Partners Hinduja Leyland Finance For Three-Wheeler Retail Finance
