JSW MG Motor India, one of the leading passenger vehicle manufacturers, has announced its wholesale sales for May 2026.

The company sold 6,048 units last month, down 4.06 percent, as compared to 6,304 units for the same period last year.

JSW MG Motor India attributed the ongoing global supply chain disruptions, rising commodity prices and a rise in freight tariffs that have impacted demand.

On the other hand, the company is looking to drive further growth with its recently introduced Majestor SUV, which replaces the outgoing Gloster as the flagship IC-powered vehicle in the carmaker's domestic lineup. The SUV is available in two drivetrain configurations. The 4x2 Automatic Top Trim is available in 6-seater and 7-seater layouts, while the 4x4 Automatic Top Trim, priced at INR 4.49 million (ex-showroom), can be had only in a 7-seater layout.

Maruti Suzuki India Achieves Record Monthly Sales Of 242,688 Units In May 2026

Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL), the country’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, has reported its best-ever monthly sales volume, delivering a total of 242,688 units in May 2026, up 35 percent, as against 180,077 units last year.

The milestone performance was anchored by an all-time high in domestic sales, which reached 193,535 units for the month, up 40 percent YoY.

Interestingly, sales to Toyota Motor Kirloskar saw a decline of 29 percent YoY to 7,239 units. While, exports grew by 34 percent to 41,914 units.

In the domestic market, Maruti Suzuki India saw growth across categories, including Mini (+140 percent YoY), compact & mid-size (+32 percent YoY), SUVs (+44 percent YoY) and Vans (+7 percent YoY).

In the light commercial vehicle (LCV) space, the Super Carry registered monthly sales of 3,198 units.

Mahindra Sells 58,021 SUVs In May 2026

Mumbai-headquartered automotive major Mahindra & Mahindra has announced its wholesales for May 2026, which marked a 20 percent YoY growth.

The company sold a total of 58,021 SUVs in the domestic market, which was 11 percent higher than 52,431 units last year.

In the commercial vehicle and three-wheeler segment, the sales came at 36,615 units, up 36 percent, as compared to 26,933 units a year ago. This includes 3,490 LCV <2-tonne, 20,589 LCV 2-tonne to 3.5-tonne and 12,536 three-wheelers.

The exports, on the other hand, came at 5,000 units, marking a 37 percent YoY growth. 

Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “In May, we achieved SUV sales of 58,021 units, a growth of 11 percent and total vehicle sales stood at 99,636, a 20 percent YoY growth. The sustained demand across our portfolio continues, constrained by supply chain challenges due to manpower shortages at select suppliers.”

Hyundai Motor India Reports 47,837 Wholesales For May 2026

Hyundai Motor India, one of the leading passenger vehicle manufacturers, has reported its domestic wholesales of 47,837 units in May 2026, which marks a 9.1 percent YoY growth.

On the exports front, the company shipped 13,300 units, which was 4.1 percent compared to a year ago. With this, the total sales for last month came at 61,137 units, up 4.1 percent YoY.

Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said, “Hyundai Motor India has continued its strong momentum of the year into May as well, achieving domestic sales of 47,837 units with 9.1 percent YoY growth and total sales of 61,137 units with 4.1 percent YoY growth. In the first two months (April and May) of FY27, HMIL witnessed domestic sales rise by 13 percent to 99,739 units, compared to 88,235 units in the same period of FY26.”

 

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Expands Volkswagen Brand To Sri Lanka

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (SAVWIPL) has announced the official launch of the Volkswagen brand in Sri Lanka. The expansion is being executed in partnership with local automotive distributor Continental Cars and Commercials.

The brand has entered the market with two initial passenger vehicle models: the Taigun SUV and the Virtus sedan. Both product lines are manufactured at SAVWIPL’s Chakan production facility in Pune, India, and are exported to Sri Lanka as part of the company's regional manufacturing and export hub strategy.

To anchor the brand's retail presence, SAVWIPL and Continental Cars and Commercials have inaugurated an integrated 3S (Sales, Service, and Spares) dealership facility in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, Colombo.

The facility features a built-up footprint of 18,713 square feet positioned across nearly one acre of land, and houses more than 20 active workshop service bays to manage customer after-sales requirements under a single roof.

The market entry aligns with stabilization trends within Sri Lanka's automotive retail sector and an increasing consumer demand for premium passenger vehicles.
