There has been some moderation in the sales performance of some automotive segments – passenger vehicles especially – in the months of July and August 2024. This is indicative of the significant changes the auto industry is witnessing. Unlike the passenger vehicles, two-wheelers did well in the respective month. In the commercial vehicle industry, the dip in sales during July and August 2024 has been attributed to the monsoon and the general elections in May and June 2024, which led to slowing down of decisions at many businesses, including those into the infrastructure domain. The price increase of commercial vehicles is also said to be a reason. With small transporters exiting the industry and bigger players taking over, a disruption is underway. This issue of Motoring Trends looks at this and many other finer aspects of the commercial vehicles industry. It highlights the observations and opinions of industry leaders; of leaders and owners of truck transport companies and bus operating companies as to what the industry pain points are. The issue looks at global as well as local developments regarding automotive majors like Stellantis and suppliers like Mahle.
